Tin Tin Buddha was the first in my list and it is one of the highly visited place in Hongkong. There are two option to reach till peak; 15 minute cable car ride or 3 hours track. Well, I was travelling with my 10 months old kid so my preference was cable car ride. It was great experience and view was awesome throughout our ride. There was option of standard cabin or crystal(it has glass floor) cabin, we choose going-up with standard cabin and coming back with crystal.
TIN TIN BUDDHA
We started at 10:00 am via hotel shuttle to ‘Tsuen wan’ MTR station. We took MTR to ‘Tung Chung’Station and took Exit B. Go straight and you will locate the cable car terminal. Show your voucher (if you have purchased online, else check for ticket line) and they will guide for online booking line. That was the season and as I said, it is one of the highly visited place, we spent around 1 our in line to reach cable cabins. The other line was very long and I am sure, it must have taken around 2.5 hours to reach to ticket counter.
The cost per person at KLOOK is HK $119/- adult. There are more options such as crystal cabin and standard cabin. You can select at the time of buying. It was 15 minutes ride and if you have scanned the code while queuing up, you can listen the audio related to history of ‘Lantau Island’
The cable car will drop you at the highest point then walk for a while to see the steps for ‘Big Buddha’. There are many cafe’s and restaurants on the street and they offer great food. It was around 210 steps to Big Buddha but worth climbing them. Don’t forget to take pictures while climbing steps to Big Buddha and for an awesome view. We spent around 30 minutes and climbed back to down.
Then we headed to see ‘Monastery’; the priest were performing prayer at that time and visitors were not allowed to go inside. Well, I have not checked after prayer visitors can go inside the Monastery or not. Even the taking picture was prohibited at that place.
It is better to finish your activities by 5:00 PM and then back to cable car terminal. It functions till 7:00 PM and the line will go long again as the time increases.
TEMPLE STREET MARKET
We came back from Big Buddha at 5:30 pm and then we took the MTR to Jordan Station for ‘Temple Street Night Market, take Exit A. Walk on the Jordan Lane until you will see the temple street night market on your right. This Market is on road with small tents and stalls. This is the good place to buy souvenir. I would recommend not to buy at very first place and go for bargaining. Check the price with other sellers as well. I bought small stuff from this market. You will face the Language issue here as-well, they write the price on their calculator to avoid any confusions with customers.
There are many restaurants at temple street, all kind of food is available. You can choose as per your cravings and what you want to try out. We had our dinner at temple street and took MTR to our nearest MTR station and then hotel shuttle. It was a great start of our vacations in Hongkong and second place in my list was “The Victoria Peak & Madame Tussauds”.
