Famous Poha-enjoy for breakfast or evening Snack/Flattened rice/पोहा- नाश्ते या शाम के नाश्ते के लिए

This is very famous snack in Pune, Indore, Mumbai and now even all over India. Mostly people make it for breakfast or evening snack. This is healthy food which needs very less oil. Usually it is made with only potatoes and peanuts but you can add your choice of vegetables.

About the Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup poha (flattened rice)
  • 1 onion
  • 1 small potato
  • 1/2 tomato
  • 4-5 fresh curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp peanuts
  • Salt to taste and pinch of turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds, 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp oil

Stepwise Directions

Step 1- Rinse poha with clean water and keep it on strainer. Then slice onion (or chop small), chop tomato into small pieces and potato in thin and small pieces. 

Step 2 – Take a pan and add 2 tbsp oil. Add peanuts and fry them on low heat until they turn crispy then take them out and fry potatoes in same oil. For frying potatoes, keep heat to medium hot and fry them till they are cooked. Then take it out potatoes in plate and transfer 1 and 1/2 tbsp oil.

Step 3 – Now in same pan add 1/2 tsp mustard seeds and fresh curry leave, when they start cracking, add sliced onion and cook for 2-3 minutes. Then add 1/2 chopped tomato (Tomato is optional, if you don’t like tomato in your poha then skip this please). After adding tomato season it with salt.

Step 4 –  Now add Poha, fried potato, peanuts (keep few peanuts for garnishing), salt to taste and pinch of turmeric. Mix everything well, keep heat to very low. In last add fresh Lemon juice and mix well. Poha is ready.

Note: Plate poha and garnish with fried peanuts, chopped onion and sev. Serve hot.
