About the Recipe

I cook Matar Mushroom Paneer sabji in winters. Because Mushrooms and peas are fresh in winters and price is also very reasonable. This Mushroom matar can be prepared with cashew gravy and can be enjoyed with rice. I personally like this dry version.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups brown mushrooms, 1 cup fresh paneer
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 cup tomatoes
  • 1 medium size onion, 1 inch ginger
  • 1 cumin seeds, 1 tsp kashmiri chili powder, 2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 turmeric, 1/2 tsp cumin seeds powder, salt as per taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves
  • 2 tbsp oil

Stepwise Directions

Step 1- Chopped tomato, onion, ginger and cut mushrooms into thin pieces and paneer into cubes.

Step 2 – Take a pan and add 2 tbsp oil, when oil is hot add cumin seeds. When seeds start cracking add onion and cook for 1-2 minutes then add ginger. Cook for another 1 minute then add spices – Kashmiri red chili powder, turmeric, coriander powder, cumin seeds powder and salt as per taste. Cook for 10-15 seconds then add chopped tomatoes and cook for 4-5 minutes or until tomatoes are soft.

Step 3 – Once gravy is cooked add mushrooms and peas, mix everything then close the lid and cook for 10-12 minutes. In other pan add 1 tsp oil and add cubed paneer. Roast from both the sides on medium heat and keep aside. Check the sabji and when water (mushroom leaves water when they are cooked) is completely dry add roasted paneer. Mix well and cook another 2 minutes on low heat. After 2 minutes, add fresh chopped coriander leaves and enjoy with Indian breads.

Note –  I have used brown mushrooms, white mushrooms also do very good in this sabji.
